VEE ARNIS JITSU / VEE JITSU SYSTEMS
GM Jim Roma
Professor Vee Original Student and 10th Degree Black Belt
Synergy Martial Arts is proud to be affiliated with GM Jim Roma and the Akron Vee Jitsu Club as one of the founding members back around 1999. The Vee Jitsu system is a dynamic and comprehensive martial art that emerged in the vibrant streets of New York City. Developed by Professor Florendo M. Visitacion, affectionately known as "Professor Vee," this martial art blends the fluidity of Jujitsu with the striking prowess of boxing, karate, and kung-fu, with an integration of the weapon-based skills of Filipino stick fighting. Professor Vee, a Filipino immigrant, brought with him a rich martial arts heritage, deeply influenced by his experiences in the Philippines. He adapted these techniques to suit the gritty, unpredictable nature of urban self-defense scenarios.
The Vee Jitsu system is characterized by its practical approach to self-defense, emphasizing adaptability, quick reflexes, and effective use of leverage. Students learn a wide range of skills, from throws and joint locks to strikes and ground fighting, all designed to provide effective defense in real-world situations. The art also places significant emphasis on weapon defense and disarmament, reflecting the realities of street confrontations.
Throughout its history, Vee Jitsu has evolved, continuously integrating new techniques and approaches. This evolution reflects Professor Vee's philosophy that a martial art should be living and adaptable, changing as needed to meet the challenges of its environment. The legacy of Vee Jitsu continues to thrive in dojos across the world, a testament to its effectiveness and the profound impact of Professor Vee's teachings.
